General Summary

This position is responsible for administration and provision of library services that are offered at library branches in Door County. Performs professional library services, which include selection of materials, programming and record keeping. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. This position is responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Essentials Job Functions

  1. Provides front-line customer service to Door County Library patrons:
  2. Checks in and out library materials of all types.
  3. Registers new library users and issues library cards.
  4. Assists customers with the use of library resources, including e-resources.
  5. Collects and records library fines and fees, plus donations and grants if applicable.
  6. Handles in-system and out-of-system interlibrary loan requests, routing them to and from the library.
  7. Performs reference and reader’s advisory functions.
  8. Trains and schedules Circulation Assistants.
  9. Maintains the library collection by selecting new materials, weeding and discarding obsolete materials, keeping the collection in an orderly, organized manner. Includes shelving and creating materials displays.
  10. In conjunction with other branch staff plans, organizes, presents, and evaluates local programs for children and adults. (*Egg Harbor location: this includes Maker Space programs and activities.)
  11. Administers branch library budget for programming and materials including library donations and grants, if applicable.
  12. Makes budget recommendations to the library director and village for equipment and capital needs.
  13. Communicates local issues concerning building, hours or program needs to Library Director and appropriate village personnel.
  14. Represents Door County Library at local events and on local committees.
  15. Prepares statistics and required reports for the library director.
  16. Coordinates with Community Relations Library Assistant to publicize library services to the branch service area.
  17. Participates in staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and conferences.
  18. *Egg Harbor location: Coordinates and collaborates with Kress Pavilion staff and volunteers as the Door County Library as Egg Harbor branch is located inside the Kress Pavilion.
  19. *Washington Island location: Drops off and retrieves Library deliveries at the Washington Island Ferry Office.

 

 

Requirements

 

Required Training and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or combination of training and experience.
  2. One (1) or more years of work experience serving the public.
  3. Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Training and Experience

  1. One (1) or more years of experience working with or volunteering for school and/ or community activities or events.
  2. One (1) or more years of experience in library methods and procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
  2. Skill in the use and operation of a personal computer. Knowledge of Microsoft Office© software -- particularly Excel and library software preferred. Skill in using/instructing tablets and reading devices.
  3. Ability to work without direct supervision while coordinating and supervising the work of others.
  4. Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  5. Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with other departmental and County employees, County supervisors, local officials, library patrons, and the general public.

 

Physical & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be stationary; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand; move; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

 

Approximately 89 % of time work is performed in a normal office setting. Interacting with other employees, general public, whether in person or on the telephone is continuously encountered.
11% of work includes Outreach and other library activities outside the library proper.

 

Washington Island location: Approximately 89 % of time work is performed in a normal office setting. Interacting with other employees, general public, whether in person or on the telephone is continuously encountered. 11% of work includes picking up and dropping off deliveries at the Washington Island Ferry office

 

Approximately 50% of work is performed stationary at a desk, working on a computer keyboard and/ or telephone with about 50% of work performed moving about the library.

Over 75% of the work is performed by conversing and communicating, observing both near and far. Daily moving items up to 50 lbs. (i.e. paper, equipment, and delivery bins) is required.  Daily pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 60 – 80lbs on wheels (loaded book trucks). Overseeing or presenting programs and events outdoors may occur.

 

In an effort to provide for continuity of County government and to cope with the problems of the emergency, you may be required to work during a proclaimed state of emergency, consistent with Sec. 323.14, Wis. Stats. and County emergency management plans and programs.
