Job Description for Kitchen Manager

Description: The Kitchen Manager reports to Birch Creek management staff and is responsible for Kitchen management & oversight, kitchen staff supervision & training and food code compliance required to operate a state licensed kitchen. Budgeting, food and supplies ordering, kitchen staff scheduling for 3 meals a day/7 days a week coverage, food preparation, menu planning, cooking and clean up are required. This professional position is salaried and seasonal.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Planning daily menus, including planning/preparing for academy meals, special events, such as, off-campus performers/early student arrivals and Sundays.
  2. Ordering food and kitchen supplies in conjunction with Facilities Manager and/or Operations Assistant, within specified annual budget.
  3. Maintaining contacts with food service representatives.
  4. Keeping accurate records of food and supplies ordered and inventory on hand.
  5. Overseeing, training, and scheduling all kitchen staff.
  6. Working with Birch Creek management to hire/contract all kitchen staff positions.
  7. Providing (preparing, cooking, serving, and cleaning up) all meals based on Academy and adult programming schedule.
  8. Maintaining kitchen appliances and equipment.
  9. Maintaining a safe and clean work area.
  10. Preparing and oversight of kitchen and dining room cleaning prior to start of the summer season and at the end of the season.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience in food service operations for schools and/or camps. Current certification in food sanitation/protection practices. Provide certification upon hire. Culintary training preferred.
  2. Knowledge of/interest and ability to prepare for the dietary and nutritional needs of student and adult populations.
  3. Ability to cook/prepare large-scale cafeteria-style meals to groups of 34-10 student, faculty and staff members.
  4. Experience in hiring, training, scheduling, motivating, mentoring and oversight of kitchen staff.
  5. Maintain communication with direct supervisors and office team members to facilitate smooth operations in ordering, billing, payment of food invoices and payroll of kitchen employees.
  6. Self-starter who is dependable, responsible, hard-working, and has a professional, positive attitude.
  7. Clean background check prior to hire.
  8. Provide references from three previous employers.
