Within this position, you will perform varied and highly confidential administrative and investigative work, including establishment, enforcement, review, and modification of court orders. The Child Support Specialist also handles financial, intergovernmental, and paternity cases as needed. As a Child Support Specialist, you will perform tasks in accordance with policy/laws/regulations and you must maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. All Door County employees are responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.
Required Training and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified training in effective interviewing tactics desirable.
- One (1) or more years’ experience working in a Human Services field, Accounting field, or paralegal office environment. An Associate’s degree in any of these area’s is strongly preferred.
- Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute determined by a standard keyboard test.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Working knowledge with Microsoft® Office and data base programs.
- Ability to exhibit good grammar and spelling skills, and possess basic math skills.
- Ability to work with the Wisconsin KIDS software system and maintain timely data work lists to track status changes for state and federal reporting purposes.
- Must have strong interviewing skills.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and maintain high degree of confidentiality regarding program, client and office information.
- Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
