The Door County Historical Society is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to serve as the Heritage Village Site Coordinator. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work at one of Door County’s cherished historical sites, managing operations, coordinating programs, and fostering community engagement.

About the Role

As the Site Coordinator, you will collaborate closely with the Executive Director to oversee the daily operations of Heritage Village. You’ll be instrumental in maintaining the Village's historic charm, engaging visitors with educational programming, and leading a team of passionate volunteers.


Key Responsibilities

Building Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise on the historical significance of all Heritage Village buildings.
  • Conduct regular inspections to address maintenance needs and ensure preservation.
  • Oversee upkeep efforts, including painting, repairs, and cleaning, in collaboration with the Village Committee and Heritage Heroes work crew.

Educational Programming

  • Coordinate engaging tours, workshops, and special events for visitors of all ages.
  • Build partnerships with local schools to promote field trip opportunities.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, train, and supervise docents and volunteers.
  • Schedule and support volunteers to align their availability and skills with programs and events.

Administrative and Financial Duties

  • Manage daily financial reporting, attendance records, and cash handling.
  • Oversee inventory control and merchandise display for the Greene Store in coordination with the Executive Director.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Assist in promoting Heritage Village through social media, newsletters, press releases, and more.
  • Support marketing initiatives to increase visibility and attendance.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Collaborate with staff and board members to implement strategies for boosting site attendance and community engagement.

Committee Participation

  • Attend Heritage Village and Program Committee meetings.
  • Provide updates on Village operations and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of historical site operations and preservation.
  • Experience in educational programming and volunteer management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems (Google Suite and Square preferred).
  • A collaborative spirit and dedication to the mission of the Door County Historical Society.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Out of Season (November—April): 4–16 hours/month.
  • In Season (May—October): 5 days/week onsite, including weekends, 35–40 hours/week.
  • Compensation: $18/hour, PTO included.
